LAD/Blog #25: The Dawes Act

This act gave the present power to take away land from native Americans. They would split up the land into shares for each individual wanting the land. The amount of land the Indians got had factors like their family status, age and gender. This act also forces the Native Americans to assimilate to American culture even if they didn't want to. It also gives the government rights to build transportation systems on their land, land lines basically whatever they wanted.
