LAD/Blog #17: Frederick Douglass' "5th of July" speech

This speech was an iconic speech as it is about a different point of view of the 4th of July. The African Americans were not recognized as people, yet people were celebrating a day for freedom when they do not have freedom yet live in the country. "Life, Liberty and Justice" were clearly not applicable to everyone living there, and they were claiming to be something they are not. While white americans are celebrating freedom, there are many in the country that are slaves.
