LAD/Blog #14: Calhoun's Speech on the Compromise of 1850

The main point of this speech was to discuss the issues the union was having mainly regarding slavery. He realized that the tensions between the union were mainly due to slavery, as it caused a lot of disagreements. He was opposing the compromise of 1850 as the southerners had the right to own slaves. He also found evidence in the Constitution supporting his claim. He did not offer any solutions to avoid disunion throughout the nation in his speech, which wasn't helpful in avoiding conflict between the North and South.
John C Calhoun
Lincoln also didn't want both sides opposing eachother
