His message begins by talking about how the conflicts between México and USA need to be addressed soon. There were major issues between the Texas border and Mexican border, as citizens were being killed in the American side. The Méxican side did not care, as they rejected talking to John Slidell when he was sent to negotiate. Polk ended up putting military forces near the border in order to keep peace and maintain our side of the border, as there were many fears México might try to invade. Polk realized that Mexico did not want to negotiate, and to save American lives we needed to protect our borders. They declared war on México, as they did too to regain territory in Texas.
