Blog #10: Jefferson's First Inaugural

Jefferson's speech starts by saying he is humbled and honored to be given his position in the presidency and looks forward to be working together with the country. He emphasises a lot throughout his speech that the principles the Americans have must be free of Old World restrictions and intolerance. He then encourages all fellow Americans to remain united no matter what happens. He strongly states how he believes that the country will remain a strong democracy, and encourages others to believe heavily, even split as Republicans and Federalists. The most important  Constitutional principles are also listed, as they must be used to run the government smoothly and at all times in order to shape the country in a positive way. They talk about a friendly and honest relationship with other countries, equal justice to all regardless their opinions or persuasions, a support of state government and their reserved rights and powers,  the people's right to vote and to rebel, the acceptance of any majority decision, the preservation of the Central government as an anchor for the people, keeping of a well disciplined military for the protection of peace, power of the people over armed force, and many more important points. The most important ones include the rights of the people which include freedom of speech, opinion, religion, and of a person. Jefferson then proceeds to apologize for his future mistakes and asks for the people's support. He was prepared to do what it takes to support the country, and he is seen to be loyal.
